As we approach the 2018 season, our Club is in a great position. Our first XI has retained the services of Akshay Darekar whom last season took 99 wickets. We have also been fortunate to sign Matt Fletcher, formerly of Derbyshire County Cricket Club who comes in as a player/coach. Following on from our top 3 finish in one of the most difficult leagues in the country, we look in good shape with Ben Edmundson as Captain.
The 2nd XI will be bolstered by the fact that we have recruited more senior players. Mark Viggards and Matty Connolly both join from Prescot. Rob McKeown has moved back into the area after a stint working down in London. Our 3rd XI will be captained by Jeff Fitzhenry. He will welcome new signing Jamie Fowler to the Club. He will also enjoy the fact that our juniors are another year older and are looking in great shape after a long winter of training.
From a wider Club perspective, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our Club sponsors for 2018. These include the Blue Mango, KDP Architects, Hogans Solicitors, Typhoo Tea, BP Devlin Quality Meats, Performance Mind, Eccleston Park Golf Club, Rainhill Rotary Club, Karanda Solutions and Dys-Appear. Please consider using there services. We also have a number of ball sponsors that have been sourced through Mike Bradley who has worked tirelessly through the winter. Please make note of these as they are listed within the handbook and on our websites. All of our sponsors play a huge role in allowing us to provide a high level of cricket across the Club, and also allows us to offer fantastic coaching to our juniors so they can learn the game from those that have played at a high level. Please show your gratification for our sponsors. Over the course of the winter we have been able to increase our coaching capacity across the Club. Congratulations to Matt Fletcher, Ross Higham, Joe McCurdy, and Nathan Jones who have all become qualified Level 2 cricket coaches. It is hoped they will be able to offer significant support to our ever increasing junior section. On my last count we have 47 juniors within the Club if everyone attends. To meet this demand we have to continually invest in coaching and the development of these children. Our hope is that we can grow further this summer with a goal schools competition aimed at getting more U9 Cricketers playing at the Club.
